The Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE) has organized a presentation with the architect Marià Castelló on the occasion of International Museum Day, on May 18. The presentation will be from 18:30 to 19 hours followed by a talk by the architect with the journalist and director of the Diario de Ibiza, Cristina Martin, from 19 to 19:45 hours. Admission to this activity is free until full capacity is reached.

The International Museum Day is an appointment marked on the annual calendar by ICOM, which each year pulls a slogan that serves to focus on issues of general interest. This year the slogan is: 'Museums, sustainability and welfare' and in this direction, the presentation will deal with this issue.

Museums are fundamental in their contribution to the welfare and sustainable development of our communities. They are trusted institutions and are in a position to create a cascading effect that fosters positive change. Museums can contribute in many ways to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals; from supporting climate action and fostering inclusion to combating social isolation and improving mental health.

Marià Castelló is an architect from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona, where he graduated with honors. Born in Ibiza in 1976, his life and work are closely linked to the island of Formentera, the landscape of which, culture and tradition have been the backbone of his profession.

Form a small atelier format, since 2002 his studio has opted for a transversal approach to the profession that has allowed him to develop projects of territory, heritage, landscape, housing, equipment, interior design, product design, research, dissemination and teaching, always under a holistic prism where the boundaries between the different scales and disciplines are diluted.

The studio's unique professional practice has been recognized at European and international levels with Special Mention - Finalist of the European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention (2017), Finalist of the FAD Awards (2017), Finalist of the XIV Spanish Architecture Biennial (2018), National ENANO Award (2018), nominated for the EU Messes Award '22 (2022), International Architecture Master Prize (2022) or the Ramon Llull Honorary Award (2023). The work of his studio has also been disseminated by numerous publications and exhibitions at the international level.

Among the most noteworthy projects are the interventions in the Torre des Pi des Català and in the Fossar Vell, n protected historic heritage, the Nautical Sports Center of Formentera, and housing as in Can Xomeu Rita, Ca l’Amo and Bosc d’en Pep Ferrer.
